at High Mowing School

High Mowing School is located across the street from Pine Hill.

Founded in 1942, High Mowing School is an accredited Waldorf co-educational high school. High Mowing was the first Waldorf high school in the United States, and remains the the only Waldorf boarding school in North America.

Waldorf Grades 9-12

The High Mowing curriculum is a well-rounded college preparatory experience that prepares our students for lives of meaning and purpose.

Our curriculum, based in the wisdom of Waldorf pedagogy, is enriched by a team of talented and experienced teachers, rooted in a place of stunning natural beauty, and informed by over 70 years of tradition.

A Place of Culture and Tradition

The High Mowing experience is imbued with seasonal festival and a culture of tradition. Many festivals, events, and other traditions have been practiced since the school's founding in 1942. These pillars of the High Mowing experience root our students in the season, inspire a sense of reverence, and create a sense of community that is hard to come by elsewhere.

Boarding Program

High Mowing was founded 75 years ago when Beulah Emmet converted her family country home into a boarding school. The old hilltop farm ideally suited the warm, home-like atmosphere she sought for her students. Now, well into the 21st century, that atmosphere continues to nurture students from around the country and across the globe, who come together at High Mowing for a unique educational experience.
