Mandarin Teacher and House Parent

About the Position
High Mowing School is a Preschool- grade 12 Waldorf School in Wilton, NH. Founded in 1942, HMS is the only international boarding Waldorf School in North America.
HMS is now accepting applications for a Mandarin teacher & house-parent position in our English Immersion Program where students in grades 5 through 8 from China spend three months of study and experience of Waldorf education. We host a fall, winter, and spring session for 20 children in grades 5 through 8.

A key member of our English Immersion team, the Mandarin Teacher & House-Parent is responsible for providing a home-like environment before school (6:30-8:00 am), after school (6:00 – 9:00 pm), and one weekend day (Sundays off). S/he is responsible for guiding the children through their daily morning routine: waking-up, dressing, breakfast, transition to school, dinner, evening, and bedtime. The development of good habits, respectful behavior, participation in activities and daily chores is emphasized. Additionally, s/he teaches Mandarin to grades 1, 2, 3&4, and 5, each for 2 periods per week.

Our preferred candidate is experienced with working with children age 10-14 in a Waldorf environment. S/he understands child development and the need for children to be held, and gently yet firmly guided.
  • Chinese-English bilingual fluency
  • Waldorf trained/in training Mandarin teacher
  • Experience in managing a group of 20 children in a loving yet firm manner 
  • Organized, able to follow instructions, dependable, punctual
The compensation for the position includes:
